What is a Cattleya?

My aunt was talking about a Cattleya the other day and I was just wondering what it was. I'm assuming from her conversation that it's some kind of plant. Any information?

It is a type of orchid – many of them are in cultivation and are beautiful.
Huge beautiful Orchid
Cattleyas are commonly found in corsages as well.
They are sympodial (the plant spreads from several growth points) and each pseudobulb may have 1 or 2 leaves.
It is a genius of the Orchard family typically chararcterised by a three lobed lip enclosing the column. Research orchards and you will see they are beautiful.
