How to revive an orchid spathoglottis?

We inherited this plant from the previous residents in our house, but most of the tips of the leaves are very brown. It is planted in a bed in the front of the house, facing east. Should I cut off all the brown leaves at the base, leaving next to nothing? Will the plant grow new leaves? Is there any hope? We are in South Florida, Zone 10.

You can just snip the brown tips off or wait for them to drop off on their own. If there is new growth coming then it should be fine. When Spathoglottis is affected by cold or sunburn the leaves will turn brown and drop. They like to be well watered so if it has been super dry this might also be the reason. They are heavy nitrogen feeders so you may want to apply a good organic liquid fertilizer after the initial watering. You should never fertilize when the plant is dry.
